Phylum Chlorophyta

Phylum Chlorophyta is a phylum of Kingdom Protista. The defining characteristics of Phylum Chlorophyta is that organisms of this phylum have both chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b, and are autotrophic. Most forms of Phylum Chlorophyta are colonial. That means the cells have different functions, but are not as complex as multicellular cells are. They gather in a chain with a polarity--one end is the head end, while the other is the tail end. An example of an organism that is classified in Phylum Chlorophyta is Volvox aureus.
