The defining characteristic of this phylum is the fungi of this phylum produce basida, which are the site of spores for sexual reproduction of the organism. A basidum is an external cell that contain the sexual spores. An example of an organism of Phylum Basidomycota is Calva gigantea. The cost of some organisms, such as A. phalloides, produce toxins that can be lethal to humans.
